2017 Site Visits Underway
Women's Fund members visit a PEAC afternoon study session and get up close and personal with students, tutors and mentors.
Women's Fund grantees are Changing Lives
Our 2016-17 grantees have designed small-group visits for Women’s Fund members and guests, which are being offered from late October through early December.
This is what one member said after her first site visit experience: ”Even though I trust the WF to make wise decisions on how to spend the money, there isn't anything like going to see for yourself. Until I went on my first visit, I didn't really understand the impact our grant had. I highly recommend that everyone join in on a site visit and see for yourself the good works we are helping to fund.”

Women's Fund Survey Results are Here!
The results of the Women’s Fund member opinion survey have been tallied and analyzed. They show that we continue to excel in our engagement and commitment to our mission and to our community, and that we are an organization that has the support of its membership. Thank you to the many, many members—nearly half of you—who completed the survey this summer. Your responses will help effectively guide the Women’s Fund into the future.
With your support, we will continue to assess and implement our three-year strategic plan to:
- Grow our membership,
- Retain our current members,
- Do our best to build a diverse community of members, and
- Understand how the Women’s Fund helps inform our members’ philanthropy.
To continue to implement the strategic plan required us to hear from a significant number of our members, and we sincerely appreciate your thoughtful replies. A summary report of all survey results is on our website. Here are some highlights:
- As we discovered in 2013, most who responded said they think the Women’s Fund mission is on target and should continue its current direction. “I’m glad that it is as simple as it is currently.”
- Almost every respondent reads the newsletter regularly or on occasion, and over 75% access the website during the year to find information about the grantees, how to join the Women’s Fund, or renew an existing membership.
- Between the Ballot Information Package and the grantee presentations, almost all who responded believe they are adequately educated about the issues the Women’s Fund seeks to address. “I have a better understanding of what grantee agencies do, so can speak to that in the community.”
- Many respondents said they are pleased with the way the Women’s Fund functions. “Overwhelmingly impressed with all the energy and intellect and collective enthusiasm of this group and its leaders.”
- One repetitive theme was for a stronger community outreach program, particularly to attract a more diverse and younger Women’s Fund demographic. “…include younger working women and women of color.”
Our Steering Committee is reviewing all responses and suggestions so that we can develop goals that resonate with our members and are responsive, when feasible, to the new ideas that you submitted to us.
Thank you, again, for your very helpful insights.
Get to Know...Health Cares
To get to know this new membership group, Health Cares, we interviewed Sabina White and Leslie Mathers-Winn. (In the photo, Leslie is seated on the left and Sabina is on the right.)
Some years ago, Sabina started a group, Compassion in Action, and this year she reached out to her UCSB friends and Health Cares was launched. Her good friend, Leslie, agreed to be captain. Sabina, a member of three groups now, gave us some information about her experience with the Women’s Fund.
As the new Group Captain of Health Cares, we asked Leslie Mathers-Winn a few questions about the group.
What is the one word you would use to describe the Women’s Fund?
Generous. I am really happy to be a member of a group of women who are so generous with their time and money.
Why did you join the Women’s Fund?
I like the idea of donating as a group and think it has a very positive impact on the community. Plus, getting to know and enjoy other like-minded women—what’s not to like?
What inspired you to create your group?
Once Sabina “launched us,” several of us asked others to join. We currently have 9 members and are working to increase the membership to 10. I am excited to get started and hope we see more of each other in the future.
