The Power of Many: How Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara Made a Record $1.25 Million Impact

This spring, the Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara achieved something truly extraordinary. On May 20, at the iconic Lobero Theatre, over 1,400 local women—a passionate collective—came together to channel a record-breaking $1.25 million in grants to 11 local nonprofits serving women, children, and families in south Santa Barbara County. It was more than a celebration—it was a powerful testament to what women can achieve when they pool their resources for the greater good.

A Giving Circle That Defines Philanthropy

Founded in 2004, the Women’s Fund reshaped how local philanthropy works—not through galas or auctions, but through intentional, collaborative giving. As a volunteer-led giving circle, it invites members to each contribute, research community needs, vote on impactful projects, and ensure accountability through grant reporting.

Thanks to low overhead—where a remarkable 94 cents of every dollar goes directly to grants—every contribution becomes a transformative act.

Dollars That Drive Real Change

The 2024–2025 grants didn’t just deliver money—they delivered momentum. Funded initiatives now expand childcare licensing for underserved communities, enhance emergency shelter security, launch transitional housing for youth exiting foster care, and expand critical services like vision care, hygiene access, mental health support, and nutritious meals.

Each grantee represents a strategic solution—selected through a rigorous research process and approved by member vote. It's a model of accountability and impact that ensures every dollar tells a story of hope and progress.

Bold Giving, Deeper Connection

It’s not just about the money—it’s about the experience. Members don’t just donate; they engage. They research causes, attend forums, cast votes, celebrate wins at events like the Celebration of Grants, and visit grantee sites through programs like Grants in Action.

Board Chair Carolyn Jabs captured the essence of this spirit, stating, “When we pool our resources, we can achieve far more than we ever could alone”.

Join the Wave of Collective Change

As the Women’s Fund charts new ground—surpassing $12.9 million in total grants since inception and positively impacting over 100,000 lives—it's a powerful invitation to join something bigger.

Whether in groups (starting around $275) or as individuals (with one vote for every $2,750 contributed), members are at the heart of shaping solutions for community’s most pressing needs.
