Member Volunteer Profile: Casey McAdams

Casey McAdams

Casey McAdams recently returned to Santa Barbara after earning her Master of Communication and Media from Rutgers University. She soon found inspiration and community by joining the Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara and becoming a Communications Committee volunteer.

Casey’s path to the Women's Fund began with her mother, a Women's Fund member for the past three years. Together, Casey and her mother attended a Women's Fund event where a representative from Noah's Anchorage explained how a recent Women's Fund grant was transforming the lives of children and teens affected by foster care. The presentation left a lasting impression on Casey.

"I was amazed by the impact," Casey says. "A small individual donation is wonderful, but by pooling contributions, the Women's Fund makes a significant difference for people in need."

Casey then attended a Volunteer Engagement event, where she was struck by the welcoming atmosphere.

"I went by myself," she recalls. "Within minutes, people were introducing themselves and making me feel like I belonged."

The Communications Committee was a natural fit for Casey. Casey first took on the role of Mailings Manager, where she is responsible for formatting, testing, and scheduling Women’s Fund email announcements, event invitations, and reminders. Her volunteer work helps ensure that members stay informed and engaged.

Casey expanded her volunteer role to include media relations. Partnering with Kerry Parker, Casey helps distribute press releases, coordinate media outreach, and publicize Women's Fund events and initiatives. The experience has allowed Casey to strengthen her public relations skills while building valuable media connections.

After previously working in the demanding entertainment industry, Casey appreciates the organization’s collaborative culture. "Communications Committee meetings don't feel like work," she says. "They're relaxed, supportive conversations where everyone wants to help each other succeed."

Volunteering with the Women’s Fund has become a meaningful part of Casey’s life. "It gives me a sense of purpose to help fellow human beings," she says. "It's helped me realize what's truly important."

She encourages prospective members—especially younger women—to get involved. She adds, "I've met incredible people, gained valuable experience, and become much more interested in the nonprofit sector. The best way to understand the impact of Women's Fund is to volunteer and experience it firsthand."
