State preschool classrooms at El Camino, Ellwood and Fairview locations are receiving comprehensive professional development and support through Early Childhood Consultation (ECC), Reflective Practice, and the California Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL) Teaching Pyramid framework. These combined programs take a community approach to Social Emotional Learning, serving students, their families, and teachers in ways that are specific to the needs of each particular classroom. In addition to our preschools receiving the combined programs, our four Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classrooms are receiving a less comprehensive, but still substantive version of these programs that provides each teacher with both one hour in-class coaching and one hour training bi-monthly. However, time for interaction with parents and students is limited with this model. This grant funds implementation of the more comprehensive program that preschool is currently receiving in our TK classrooms for the 2018-2019 school year and in providing preschools with the less comprehensive coaching and professional development program currently implemented in TK. This will allow an additional year of social emotional support to preschoolers to reinforce the learning, and ensure the continued growth of practice of our preschool teachers, and to serve more students. Goleta Education Foundation serves as the fiscal agent for this project.
