CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) From Trauma To Hope - Stories of Foster Care
You are invited to be part of a private tour of CASA’s exhibit created by young adults who were placed in foster care as children (Santa Barbara County’s Foster Care). Afterwards, meet with CASA’s directors to learn more about the impact CASA has on the lives of these youth.
CASA’s ground-breaking and powerful “From Trauma to Hope – Stories of Foster Care” exhibit features art works, graphic designs, and written works by young artists who share their personal stories of growing up in foster care in Santa Barbara County. Several of the artists/writers will be available throughout the exhibit space to talk with Women’s Fund members.
After experiencing the exhibit, attendees will gather to learn more from CASA Executive Director Kim Colby Davis and CASA Community Engagement Director Kira Cosio.
CASA provides critical personalized support and advocacy for more than 500 abandoned, abused, or neglected children in Santa Barbara County’s Foster Care system, supported by highly trained volunteers who assure safe, permanent, and nurturing homes. “CASA volunteers Show Up, Stand Up and Speak Up” to support and look out for the best interests of the foster children they mentor.
Thanks to a Women’s Fund grant, CASA is able to upgrade its data management system, purchase new equipment, and hire a data manager to ensure the maintenance of important historic and current information about each child. As a result, CASA volunteers can provide specific data that Juvenile Court judges need to make informed decisions in children’s cases, keep closer track of each child they advocate for, and better evaluate the impact of CASA’s ongoing work.
