This grant funded the installation of photovoltaic solar panels on the roof of CCSB’s Haley Street food pantry, which provides supplemental food for 600 people a week. The solar panels provided a yearly utility cost savings that was leveraged into meeting an increasing demand for food for those in need -- a demand estimated to rise by 35% by 2010. Additionally, there was a beneficial environmental effect. The installation served as a model for other non-profits operating in the city center and allowed the ability of CCSB to be an energy back-up to power emergency generators for the SB County Disaster Preparedness & Recovery Project.
