Continued Reproductive Health Services for South Santa Barbara County Patients

Funding will keep the agency’s Santa Barbara Health Center open and provide essential reproductive healthcare to its patients.

When the federal government effectively defunded Planned Parenthood from the Medicaid program in 2025 and blocked specific state funding, the healthcare of more than 5,000 South Santa Barbara County community members was put at risk. At Planned Parenthood California Central Coast, 70% of patients use Medicaid insurance to access annual wellness and pelvic exams, STI/STD testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, contraceptive management, vasectomies, and cancer screenings. Other services provided at PPCCC include abortion care (9%), gender affirming hormone therapy (2%), and behavioral health services (2%).

The government’s one-year revocation of Medicaid eligibility for abortion providers, combined with earlier funding losses, led to a net $17 million loss at the PPCCC’s six regional clinics. A $200,000 grant over two years will help to stabilize PPCCC’s budget, keeping the doors open at their Santa Barbara Health Center. In doing so, the organization can continue its vital role in the local public health system as a trusted provider of sexual and reproductive health care.
