On April 25, 2016 the Women’s Fund awarded grants to seven local nonprofits totaling $470,000 from funds collected from membership donations made during 2015. This was largest amount awarded solely from members’ donations since the founding of the Women’s Fund.
Supported by Women’s Fund grants, these remarkable organizations will help at-risk kids graduate from high school, increase the number of low-income children receiving free transportation to after-school and weekend activities, provide a covered shelter for after-school programs, as well as purchase a facility to ensure early child care for Isla Vista families. They will build urgently needed low income housing for seniors, attend to the medical needs of our homeless citizens inside a mobile clinic and teach construction trades to high school students through the construction of “tiny houses.”
