The Rescue Mission is the only local emergency shelter where homeless woman can find a bed on a walk-in basis 365 days a year without any religious or behavioral restrictions. After 30-years, the Rescue Mission’s aging building is in serious need of renovation. Currently women sleep in cramped spaces originally intended as office and storage rooms. Women also share a deteriorated restroom serving both sexes on a complicated schedule. This grant will pay a portion of the cost of renovating the facilities for homeless women, increasing the number of beds for women from 14 to 32 and creating a new restroom specifically for women. The improved facilities will expand the Rescue Mission’s ability to provide temporary emergency shelter and appropriate social services to women who find themselves homeless.
