Remodel an existing storage space into an eight-bed dormitory to provide stabilization and trauma-informed care for women awaiting addiction treatment.
Waiting months for admission into one of the county’s overburdened drug or alcohol treatment programs poses a serious threat to the sobriety and mental health of homeless individuals motivated to achieve long-term remission. The Santa Barbara Rescue Mission offers post-detox stabilization beds for men awaiting addiction treatment, but no such safe harbor exists for women.
A Women’s Fund grant allows the agency to remodel an existing on-site storage space into an eight-bed dormitory for women transitioning from detox to formal addiction treatment. These beds will offer 36 to 50 unsheltered women a safe, supportive, trauma-informed respite from the streets. Case managers will provide individualized daily support, including referrals to medical and behavioral health services, appointment scheduling, and transportation.
By meeting women’s immediate needs, the program is designed to create a stable pathway to long-term recovery and housing stability.
