Parent Project

Parent Project.  This grant will fund 10 additional 10-week parent education and mentoring classes serving 300 parents and their school-aged children. The classes use a structured curriculum to help parents learn positive ways to steer their children and teens away from risky behavior, negative peer associations and irregular school attendance. Emphasis is on developing effective parent-child communication skills, allowing parents to connect with their children and either intervene in or prevent destructive behaviors and associations. Classes are held at school sites or neighborhood centers and bring parents together to learn skills, share common problems and tackle difficult issues head-on. Several hundred parents have completed classes with positive results
